An “I can’t believe I get to read this for free” article. Incredible synthesis and we’re in full alignment over here at Solar punk farms. To fix the horror fear anxiety and avoidance in our hearts, we have to start making real material progress.
If you're writing a genuinely Thrutopian novel (see link for definition: but in essence, 'writing a routemap through from a recognisable present to a future we'd be proud to leave to the generations that come after us.' - and you'd like a cover quote, get your press team to contact me.. Thanks Manda! The coming novel is not quite so optimistic, but I've got some happier pots on the stove. Appreciate all authors who are doing such thrutopian work!
While it's been a serious concern for some for decades, I think recognizing climate change and other planetary dynamics like species loss as serious issues has only begun happening for a greater mass of folks for the last five-ish years, due to human psychology tendencies and the added pressures to deny reality. Otherwise I feel your argument's on track, and yes a great number of folks worldwide feel the reality in our bones now, even if not saying so publicly much.
Shout out also to an alt platform, like https://ghost.org/vs/substack/ esp. now that there can be discoverability, "distribution and interaction across Ghost, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Flipboard, WordPress, WriteFreely, Surf, and" any open social web app, per https://ghost.org/6/ --SStack is promoting many right-wing and sometimes Nazi aligned publishers, with big $$. I have a 'Stack account but haven't posted since Jan. 2020. Really encourage all lefty publishers and supporters to research alt platforms to switch to.
That is our society's real derailment. This idea has been pushed onto us, and we bought it. From disposables to Ozempic, convenience comes at the detriment of the environment, ethics, and everything else, just like profit maximization - in the end, a means to allow one to live off other people's labor with no involvement. The ultimate convenience.
I'm with you on the Climate Repair part; that is why I've created the Regenerative Organization Canvas to help any organization go beyond sustainability toward regenerating our planet.
Love this! Super interesting. Something about being raised and taught that we have massive societal problems - climate change, wars, famine, inequality - but anyways, make sure you submit your homework tomorrow! contributes to some sense of surrealism. Would love to see an exploration of how this ties into the (lack of) social media regulation/digital polarization/the future of an AI-slop internet

That's another piece of the puzzle! "The truth is paywalled and the lies are free."

Let me know when there's a Thrutopian one on the way. :)

The root cause is exactly in the:
"We all gravitate towards convenience"
